This Week’s Must Reads

If someone asked me, “Julie, how would you describe this week in comics?” I would say, “WHAT. A. DOOZY.” And then I would mime wiping sweat from my brow, to indicate what a doozy this week in comics has been.

I’m going to try really hard to keep my very favorites to a minimum, but there will be about a zillion runners-up.

Adventure Time #2

Even more funny and algebraic than #1! Loved both back up stories as well. I can’t wait until next month, with a back up (and amazing breakfast themed variant cover) by Michael DeForge.

Saga #1

Oh my God, WELCOME BACK BKV! This book is already better than I could have hoped for. Readitreaditreadit. Fiona Staples’ art is just perfect.

Wolverine and the X-Men #7

Aw, poor little Broodling. It looks like my new favorite character is going to have quite the arc in this title. Seven issues into it and this is still one of the most enjoyable books every month.

The Secret History of D.B. Cooper #1

What a cool premier issue! Rad art and a trippy concept, I really hope it stays this interesting.

Locke and Key: Clockworks #5

The answers to long held questions are coming hard and fast now that the series is winding down, with some really cool and creepy revelations. Don’t know how this book stays so incredible.

Runners-up: Batwoman #7, Saucer Country #1, Conan #2, Powers #9, Thief of Thieves #2, Scarlet Spider #3, Lobster Johnson: The Burning Claw #3, Incredible Hulk #6.
